Recently Unearthed: Basement Batman

Last week I was looking for a Batman T-shirt or some other unusual Batman object. I'd searched all the online stores I could think of and finally resorted to a Google Images search to try to find something weird/different. I came across Basement Batman's logo and immediately it caught my attention. I started digging through cyberspace to find out more and learned that this is a band. Well, guess who likes music and has two thumbs: THIS GIRL!

So, instead of continuing my search for the dark knight, or whatever he's called, I went ahead and listened to their music. Seems they don't have a lot of web presence. They list a website in several locations, but the actual website does not seem to exist. They have a few videos on YouTube and some downloads available on SoundCloud and BandCamp.

I think you should check them out. I kind of like their "confused disco" "dirt pop" sound as they call it.

Recently Unearthed: Mikal Cronin

You might have seen/heard Mikal Cronin at SXSW, but if you lead a sad existence like I sometimes do, you haven't been to SXSW yet. To me, he sounds a little like Fleet Foxes and the Beach Boys had a transgenerational love child. It's not the cleanest sound, but it's soothingly noisy. I don't mind noisy music when it maintains a melody and isn't just repetitive buzzing. His peaceful voice is a nice contrast to the noise. It's like a soothing sound leading you through chaos.

His song, Weight, is what first got my attention. You can get this song from Amazon in the Merge Records Summer Sampler 2013. The sampler is free...or was when I got it.

I tend to prefer songs from the newest album, MCII, but other songs aren't bad either.
