Rambling Around Town: Stalk Baby Dino

OK, my Karate Instructor has been bugging me to do a contest. We're going to try something simple first. I'm going to be out and about in Kansas City and the surrounding area this weekend; see if you can follow my tracks. I'm not getting a legal department involved, so let's try to just have fun and not be all whiny and picky about technical rules.

Here's what I'm going to do:

I plan to be out Friday, probably in the Power & Light District. Saturday, I hope to be in Westport.

When I get where I'm going, I will post on Twitter the business or general location that I am leaving my tracks (@Clau_HMFIC). After doing so, I will leave my business card(s) somewhere at that business. The business card will have a secret word/phrase written on it. Example #Stalker

  • Follow me on Twitter to get the clue.
  • Find the business card.
  • Go to Twitter.
  • Tweet me, include secret word/phrase that is on the business card.
  • Sit back and relax.
  • One winner per secret word/phrase and you can only submit One secret word/phrase. So, if you find more than one business card, leave it for someone else and don't think 12 of you can send me the same secret word/phrase. First correct submission for each one according to the order they reach me on Twitter will be declared winner.

I will get in touch with you within a few days and you will get some kind of prize. (Yet to be determined, but I'll try to make it worth your while).

Please note, you will need to be willing to provide me with a mailing address. I will not use this for anything unsavory, such as mailing lists, fake craigslist ads, or the like. I will only use your address to send you the prize.

I will be out of town for part of the weekend, so don't freak out if it's a few days before I contact winners.

If for some reason I find that I will not be in these particular locations, I will still find somewhere in Kansas or Missouri to leave my tracks.

Recently Unearthed: Hollis Brown

Today, I started to sync my iPod and something funky happened and everything got deleted (from my iPod, not my computer) and it took me a couple of hours to finally click the right variety of buttons to get the music to reload to my iPod. It's a miracle that I didn't absolutely come unglued, but I lived through the trauma. It would have been scarier if I didn't have all of my files on my laptop.

The reason I tell you this story is that it significantly cut into the amount of time and attention span I had set aside to blog for you today. I haven't really seemed to find any new interesting music this week anyway.

Fitz & the Tantrums' new album comes out 5/7. It's already pre-ordered and I've already listened to it streaming about 100 times now, but I'll be glad for Tuesday to get here so I can own it. They'll be on Jimmy Kimmel Live on 5/8. I don't watch that show, but I'll DVR it for their performance.

So, today I thought I'd just do a basic mix for you from the Wheel of Destiny to see if I find anything good I hadn't found before or had forgotten about. I actually tried to find something decent and, after about 25 songs, realized that it was boring to say "meh" about every song. I was about to give up and hit upon Hollis Brown. I'd downloaded a track recently from Paste Magazine's mPlayer and it turns out that I also have their Daytrotter session.

I like the retro sound of this band and expect I'll be listening to them a lot more in the future.
